I’ve tested icon with 1-pixel checkerboard. With 57×57 it results in moire pattern, so the icon isn’t used 1:1.
59×59 and 60×60 give best results. You can’t get it exactly right, because iPhone requires a square icon, but scales it to 59×60!

I took this info and came up with a iPhone Webclip icon psd template.
This is 120 x 120 with borders of top 2px, right 3px, bottom 7px, left 3px.
I also used a 20px radius rounded corner box.
By doing this I got a solid thin border on the iPhone.
